PUEBLO, Colo. — Multiple years of expanding research opportunities to win major grant awards have paid off for CSU 福利小视频. Today, designated CSU 福利小视频 as one of their The designation recognizes institutions spend at least $2.5 million on research and development and don't traditionally focus on awarding doctorates.  

CSU 福利小视频’s expenditure on research was $2.57 million over the fiscal years 2021-2023. Out of approximately 4,000 institutions nationwide, CSU 福利小视频 joins a select group of 218 universities recognized for their significant research activity while maintaining a strong focus on undergraduate education. In recent months, CSU 福利小视频 was awarded a CRISI grant of $11 million to study compressed hydrogen and natural gas rail cars from Federal Railroad Administration. 

The university stands apart in higher education through its approach to undergraduate research. Rather than isolating research in graduate programs, the university has created an environment where undergraduate students engage in significant research across all disciplines. Students don't just study theory – they apply it, whether they're using artificial intelligence to track wildlife movements at Raton Pass or conducting large-scale studies on athlete nutrition and food security. This hands-on research model allows students to experience every aspect of the research process, from hypothesis development to presenting findings at national conferences. The result is a dynamic research community where undergraduates make meaningful contributions to solving real-world challenges while developing critical thinking and analytical skills that prepare them for future careers or graduate studies.

The Carnegie Classification uses data from the National Center for Education Statistics and National Science Foundation (NSF) surveys to determine classifications, calculating research activity across various categories including research expenditures and scholarly output. 

"Securing the formal designation represents more than just a classification—it validates our student-first approach to creating knowledge through faculty-student partnerships," said Gail Mackin, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. "What sets CSU 福利小视频 apart is our commitment to involving undergraduate students directly in significant research projects, preparing them for future careers while contributing to their fields of study. As a career scientist and mentor, I am proud of CSU 福利小视频’s evolution which is celebrated each spring with the Student Research symposium." 

Last April, the Spring Student Research Symposium saw 11 oral presentations and 87 poster exhibitions. The symposium had 37 research mentors, 97 first-time student authors and an additional 217 co-authors. Every college at the university and 23 different majors submitted research topics. 

Current research initiatives at CSU 福利小视频 showcase this approach: 

• Student researchers conducting large-scale studies on athlete nutrition and implementing evidence-based interventions 
• Undergraduates using machine learning to study wildlife behavior at Raton Pass 
• Students discovering and characterizing new bacteriophages, contributing to global viral research 
• Social science research on surveillance technologies and civil rights accepted at national conferences 

The Carnegie designation comes with a change in how research universities are classified. Prior to the new classification, institutions were sorted into equally sized groups using 10 variables to differentiate the schools. Under the new criteria, more institutions get recognized for their research. This opens the possibility of attracting top-tier faculty and students from around the world as they seek to work adn study at the cutting edge of their fields.

The university's focus on involving undergraduates in substantial research projects has resulted in numerous student presentations at national conferences and contributions to peer-reviewed publications.
