CSU 福利小视频 to Host Second Annual Southern Colorado Transportation Conference
Release Date: September 24, 2025
PUEBLO, Colo. Colorado State University 福利小视频 (CSU 福利小视频) will host the second annual Southern Colorado Transportation Conference on Monday, October 6, bringing together industry professionals, researchers and students to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing modern transportation: extreme weather resilience.
The conference, organized by CSU 福利小视频’s Southern Colorado Institute of Transportation Technology (SCITT), focuses specifically on “Extreme Events Management for Railroad Transportation Infrastructure.” The free event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Occhiato Student Center Ballroom.
“The transportation industry faces unprecedented challenges from extreme weather events,” said Md Islam, SCITT Director and Conference Chair. “This conference creates space for meaningful dialogue about solutions that keep our communities connected.”
Three distinguished speakers will anchor the programming. Hilary Nixon, Deputy Executive Director of the Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University, delivers the welcome address. Ann Rajewski, Vice Chair of the SCITT Governing Board and Executive Director of the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies, brings regional expertise. Karen Asplin, International President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, offers global perspectives on transportation challenges.
The afternoon poster session from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. showcases research spanning advanced technologies, roadway safety, aviation operations, rail and public transit, infrastructure resiliency, and case studies from major regional projects.
Southern Colorado’s geographic position makes it particularly vulnerable to weather extremes that disrupt transportation networks. From flash floods to severe winter storms, the region’s transportation systems must adapt to increasingly unpredictable conditions.
“Transportation systems are the backbone of our economy and everyday life,” said Dr. Saqib Gulzar, SCITT Research Director and Conference Co-Chair. “By convening experts, students, and practitioners, SCTC strengthens our region’s ability to innovate and stay resilient.”
Last year’s inaugural conference drew participants from across the region, establishing SCTC as an important forum for collaboration between academic researchers and industry practitioners. This year’s expanded programming includes two lectern sessions, industry-student interaction events, and high school student participation.
The conference addresses both immediate operational concerns and longer-term adaptation strategies. Gulzar emphasized that partnerships built at the conference will “translate into tangible strategies that help Colorado and the nation maintain safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation networks.”
Registration is free and includes all meals. The deadline to register is October 1, 2025.
