PUEBLO, Colo. — The name sounds pretty jarring at first. “Break Your Neck” isn’t exactly what you’d expect for a community 5K. That’s exactly the point.

Kenny White III knows something about broken necks. On November 15, 2023, he suffered a burst fracture to his C6 vertebrae. Emergency surgery. Waking up as a quadriplegic. The kind of moment that splits your life into before and after.

Months of rehabilitation followed. Hard work that most of us can’t imagine. Then something remarkable happened. White got the use of his legs back completely. He started running again. His wife suggested maybe it was time for a 5K.

This Saturday at CSU 福利小视频, people will walk, run, and roll together to celebrate the disability community while raising funds for spinal cord injury rehabilitation and awareness. Whether you cover the distance on foot or wheels, you’re part of something that matters.

The route winds through some of the campus’s most scenic areas. Participants often describe the atmosphere as both moving and uplifting, though that probably doesn’t capture it entirely. There’s something about seeing people navigate challenges that puts your own daily complaints in perspective.

Registration gets you a t-shirt and refreshments. More importantly, it gets you connected to people whose stories might surprise you. All proceeds support local rehabilitation programs that actually make differences in people’s lives. Not abstract differences. Real ones.

You can register at  or sign up the day of the event. Registration is free, though donations are welcome.

Event Details: Saturday, September 13, 2025
