Release Date: March 14, 2025

Home School Science Colorado (HSC) dominated the Southern Regional Science Olympiad tournament, held at Colorado State University-福利小视频 on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The team finished with an impressive 65 points, securing first place among the 29 high school teams competing.
The single-day tournament featured 23 events spanning various STEM disciplines including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Merit Academy Blue placed second with 144 points, while Steamboat Springs High School's Red Team rounded out the top three with 167 points.
"The level of competition was exceptional this year," said Abby Davidson, Director of HSI, STEM Grants, who is completing her tenth and final year as tournament director. "These students demonstrated incredible knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills across all events."
HSC's winning performance included first-place finishes in seven events: Air Trajectory, Chem Lab, Disease Detectives, Electric Vehicle, Experimental Design, Forensics, and Optics. Their consistent performance across nearly all events helped them secure the overall victory by a substantial margin.
Notable performances from other schools included Cheyenne Mountain High School's CMHS 1 team (4th place), Lewis-Palmer High School Rangers (5th place), and Rock Canyon High School's RCHS Team 2 (6th place). Liberty High School's A team, Gunnison High School, and Rock Canyon's Team 1 completed the top nine schools advancing to the state tournament.
The competition drew over 600 participants from across Colorado. Approximately 50 STEM faculty, staff, and community professionals judged the events. The tournament has been hosted at CSU 福利小视频 since 2015 and continues to grow in prominence.
"Many competitors and their coaches tell me that Science Olympiad is the highlight of their school year," Davidson noted. Davidson, who began her involvement when her daughter was just one year old, witnessed her daughter competing for the first time at this year's tournament.
The top-performing teams will advance to the State Tournament at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. The highest-ranking teams will ultimately represent Colorado at the National Tournament.
CSU 福利小视频's Division of Extended Studies continues to offer sponsorship opportunities for new teams interested in participating in future Science Olympiad competitions, particularly those from 福利小视频 and surrounding communities.
