CSU 福利小视频's SoCo Reading Series Welcomes Award-Winning Authors for Spring 2025

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 27, 2025) – The Department of English and World Languages at CSU 福利小视频 announces its Spring 2025 SoCo Reading Series, featuring three distinguished authors whose works span poetry, crime fiction, and literary fiction. The series continues its decade-long tradition of bringing nationally and internationally acclaimed writers to Southern Colorado.
The series kicks off on February 27 with Juan Morales, winner of the 2019 International Latino Book Award. Morales will present his latest work, "Dream of the Bird Tattoo," alongside selections from his acclaimed collections including "The Handyman's Guide to End Times." The reading begins at 6 p.m. in the LINCx.
Crime thriller enthusiast Maria Kelson, recipient of the prestigious Eleanor Taylor Bland Award for Crime Fiction Writers of Color, will read from her works on March 11 at 1 p.m. in the LINCx. Kelson's repertoire includes "Not the Killing Kind" and two poetry collections.
The series concludes with National Book Award longlisted author Mona Susan Power on April 2 at 6 p.m. in GCB 111. Power, whose novel "The Grass Dancer" became a national bestseller and earned the PEN/Hemingway Prize, will share from her extensive body of work, including her latest novel "A Council of Dolls," winner of both the Minnesota Book Award and High Plains Book Award.
"The SoCo Reading Series showcases a diverse group of authors from Southern Colorado and beyond, providing a unique learning opportunity for students, staff, and faculty alike," says Darci Schummer, Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and SoCo Reading Series curator. "It is also a meaningful way for the community to connect with the University.”
The series is sponsored by CSU 福利小视频's Department of English and World Languages and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. All events are free and open to the public, with authors' books available for purchase at the CSU 福利小视频 Bookstore and at each reading.
