CSU 福利小视频 to Host Dr. Yolanda Broyles-González for "Manifesting Aztlán in Higher Education"

福利小视频, CO – Colorado State University 福利小视频 is excited to announce a special lecture featuring renowned author, activist, and distinguished university professor Dr. Yolanda Broyles-González. The event, titled "Manifesting Aztlán in Higher Education," will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the CSU-福利小视频 Library, LARC 109.
Dr. Broyles-González is celebrated for her groundbreaking contributions to Chicana/o studies and her advocacy for gender and racial equity in academia. In 1985, she became the first woman of color to achieve tenure at UC Santa Barbara, where she pioneered the nation’s first Chicana/o Studies PhD program. Her significant work in higher education continues to inspire scholars and students across the nation.
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Broyles-González has been a strong advocate for social justice, particularly in addressing inequalities faced by women and minority professors. Her efforts were nationally recognized in 1996 when she received commendation from President Bill Clinton during a White House ceremony.
An ally of the United Farm Workers, Dr. Broyles-González has collaborated closely with labor leader César Chávez and is currently working on a manuscript that revisits Chávez's teachings during a pivotal course he led at UC Santa Barbara in 1992, when Dr. Broyles-González was head of the Chicana and Chicano Studies Department
Her published works delve into Chicano culture and the experiences of Native women, including her pivotal text the El Teatro Campesino: Theater in the Chicano Movement (UT Press). Dr. Broyles-González is also the recipient of the lifetime Distinguished Scholar Award from the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies. This free event is open to the public.
