PUEBLO, COLO– The CSU 福利小视频 Music Department is set to present the annual 福利小视频 Keyboard Arts Festival from October 31 to November 2, 2024. This year's festival will feature a landmark event: the US premiere of "Voices at the End," a groundbreaking digital concerto by renowned composer John Psathas.

Zahari Metchkov, professor of music at CSU 福利小视频, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming festival saying, “We are providing a welcoming platform for audiences interested in immersing themselves in the art of keyboard playing. The festival serves as a source of inspiration, knowledge, and one of the many elements that lead to the growth of the 'complete musician.’”

The festival offers an arange of music-focussed activities, including lectures, masterclasses, and competitions. The highlight being the U.S. premiere of "Voices at the End" on Thursday, October 31, at 7:00 PM in Hoag Hall. This innovative work for six pianos, audio track, and video addresses critical issues of our planetary future.

Psathas, known for his genre-crossing compositions, brings together elements of jazz, classical, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, avant-garde, rock, and electronica in his work. As reported in a 2000 New Zealand International Festival of the Arts program, Psathas described his creative processas a way of  “finding something that exists at the remote periphery of what I know.”

Justin Dearman, a senior student and festival assistant in the Music Department at CSU 福利小视频 said, “Hosting the US premiere of 'Voices at the End' as part of our Keyboard Arts Festival is a tremendous honor for CSU 福利小视频. This work showcases extraordinary musical talent and addresses critical global issues."

The festival will conclude with a Piano Monster Concert on Saturday, November 2, featuring performances by CSU 福利小视频 Keyboard Students, Alumni, Southern Colorado Teachers and their students, Faculty, and Guests.

CSU 福利小视频 supports the festival as part of their dedication in fostering cultural enrichment and global awareness. By presenting works that combine artistic excellence with social consciousness, the Music Department continues to provide students and the community with thought-provoking performances that stay with them beyond the concert hall.
