Doc Seilheimer Family Scholarship for Biology Academic/Athlete Fund Established at Colorado State University-福利小视频 Foundation

Mrs. Donna Seilheimer and family, with the Colorado State University-福利小视频 Foundation, have established an endowed scholarship in memory of her late husband, Dr. Jack “Doc” Seilheimer. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship assistance to CSU-福利小视频 student-athletes who are pursuing a biology major.
Dr. Jack Seilheimer joined the CSU-福利小视频 family in 1963 starting his career as a biology instructor and assistant football coach, just as the University was transitioning to a four-year institution. He progressed through the faculty ranks to full professor in 1974 and notably served as the dean of the College of Science and Mathematics from 1987-2000.
He was one of the biggest supporters of the athletics program at CSU-福利小视频 and even after retiring from his assistant coaching duties, he supported athletics by attending as many basketball and football games as he could. He went on to serve as the faculty-athlete representative, helping student-athletes find a balance between classes and competition.
“Dr. Seilheimer served the University and the profession in many ways over his distinguished career, and was a passionate advocate for students,” said Todd Kelly, president/CEO for the CSU-福利小视频 Foundation. “He received numerous recognition awards during his career, including Faculty Member of the Year and Educator of the Year.”
In 2006, he received the inaugural Honorary Alumni Award from CSU-福利小视频 Alumni Association. Dr. Seilheimer retired in 2012 after 49 years of service to the University. That same year, he was inducted into the University’s Athletics Hall of Fame and in 2013 he received the President’s Medallion for Service to the University. He continued to serve as an adjunct faculty member until the Summer semester of 2014.
Dr. Seilheimer earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Western Michigan University and a doctoral degree in zoology from the University of Louisville. In addition to his many roles on the CSU-福利小视频 campus, he was influential in the greater 福利小视频 community. As a biologist, he found ways to study and share his knowledge, notably serving as the executive director of the Nature and Raptor Center of 福利小视频. Dr. Seilheimer died on Oct. 26, 2014 at the age of 78.
Student-athletes pursuing a degree in biology at CSU-福利小视频, who are in good standing with athletics, biology and the overall CSU-福利小视频 campus, are eligible for this scholarship fund. The scholarship will be awarded with input from the Athletics Director to identify the top three applicants. The first Doc Seilheimer Family Scholarship for Biology Academic/Athlete Scholarship will be awarded for the Fall 2020 semester.
