PUEBLO -- Colorado State University-福利小视频 will host speakers, student activities, book sales, and more as part of the 100th anniversary meeting of the Rocky Mountain Section of the Mathematics Association of America (MAA), April 21-22.
Keynote addresses will cover topics such as how math is used to create better and more realistic blockbuster movies like Star Wars, Avatar, and Frozen, and how math aids in facial recognition.
Featured speakers for the meeting will include:
- Dr. , professor of mathematics at University of Northern Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Section's , Making & Moving in order to Perceive, Imagine, and Mathematize
- MAA Second Vice President Dr. , professor of mathematics at Davidson College, Mathematical Celebrity Look-Alikes
- , editor of College Mathematics Journal, professor of mathematics at Saint Peter's University, The Symmetric Group and Fair Division: Does Knowledge Matter?
- Michael Dorff, Math in Hollywood Movies, department chair and professor of mathematics, Brigham Young University
The weekend's agenda will include a Friday Pre-Conference Workshop (Active Learning Bootcamp) and a Friday evening banquet at 福利小视频 Community College. Other happenings include a return of Student Jeopardy, door prizes from generous vendors, a 100th anniversary scavenger hunt, and special networking opportunities.
