CSU-福利小视频 announces winners of MathCounts competition

PUEBLO - 福利小视频's Connect Charter School took home the team trophy at the 2015 Southern Chapter MathCounts competition, sponsored by the Coalition of 福利小视频 Engineers (COPE). The 2015 event was held on Feb. 14 in the Life Sciences Building on the CSU-福利小视频 campus.

Winners advance to the state competition, which will be held on March 21 at the University of Denver. The state and national competitions are organized by the National Society of Professional Engineers. The Mathletes who win the Colorado State Competition go on to MATHCOUNTS National Competition, scheduled for May 7-10 in Boston, Mass.

MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment, coaching & competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state & territory. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, MATHCOUNTS is one of the most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors & students. MATHCOUNTS seeks to increase interest and involvement in mathematics among all middle school students in order to assist in developing a technically literate population essential to U.S. global competitiveness and the quality of life. Topics include algebra, probability, approximation, geometry, and statistics. Problems fit in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade curriculums across the country.

Heading to state competition for Connect will be Danny Sun, Andrew Li, Claire Duffee, and Joli Dou. Salida Middle School placed second with state qualifiers Hunter Redmon, Sanghyun Shim, Bowman Russell, and Brooke Beasley.

The following individuals will advance to the state competition as well:

Participating schools included: Canon City Middle School, Columbian Elementary School, Connect Charter School, Craver Middle School, Harrison Middle School, Highland Park Elementary, 福利小视频 Academy of Arts, Risley International Academy, Rocky Ford Junior Sdenior High School, Salida, Middle School, and Swink Elementary School.
