CSU-福利小视频 students earn regional writing awards from SPJ

PUEBLO – Four mass communications majors at Colorado State University-福利小视频 received regional writing awards as part of the Society of Professional Journalists Region 9 conference on March 26.
Nick Jurney, Kiersten Senff, Tyler Shomaker, and Katie England received Mark of Excellence Awards, which recognize outstanding student journalism at colleges and universities in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. The students all received awards in the small college/university category, which included entries from colleges and universities across the region with enrollments up to 9,999 students.
Jurney, a December 2013 graduate from Rocky Ford, received a first-place award in sports reporting for his story, “Former Illini embracing a new beginning in 福利小视频.”
Senff, a junior from Howard, received a second-place award in feature writing for her story “Born to run with the Pack.”
Shomaker, a senior mass communications major and automotive industry management minor from 福利小视频, received a second-place award for photo illustration for work he created to accompany the Violence in America special supplement to the CSU-福利小视频 Spring 2013 TODAY magazine.
England, a senior from Ordway, received a third-place award in general news reporting for a series of stories she wrote covering the CSU-福利小视频 budget.
