Art & Creative Media, Bachelor of Arts

Program Overview
A Bachelor of Arts degree from our department provides a well-rounded education with opportunities for exploration and for developing your own path. We offer three BA degrees:
- K-12 Art Education - preparing to be an art teacher
- Art History - analyzing and interpreting art and architecture throughout history
- Art & Creative Media - creating art and design projects
Within all of these, you will gain broad skills such as a second language, be able to select electives and/or a minor, and explore a broad variety of artistic media.

K-12 Art Education
The Art Education concentration is designed for students to who want to become art teachers within K-12 schools. The program includes a general studio education in the visual arts, a substantial study in the liberal arts, and an extended minor program in K-12 education.

Art History
The Art History concentration challenges students to examine art and architecture throughout the world and to become familiar with diverse cultures, religions, and perspectives. Art history courses investigate political, economic, and cultural factors in artistic production and reception.

Career Paths
The art history emphasis fosters visual analysis, written and oral communication, research, critical analysis, and creative problem-solving skills that lend themselves to a variety of career paths and fields of graduate study. This degree path lays the foundations for careers in teaching, research, conservation, and curating at schools, galleries, museums, auction houses, libraries, archives, non-profit organizations, and commercial businesses.

The program encompasses a breadth of geographic regions, time periods, and media with a particular emphasis on the arts of the Americas and intercultural exchange.

Art & Creative Media
The Art & Creative Media concentration integrates arts research with broad-based studio art training into a substantial liberal arts education. It is appropriate for students who seek a well-rounded liberal arts degree that is enriched by studio education in the visual arts.
