Eddie Lucero received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Merced in Summer 2023 and joined the faculty at CSUP shortly after as an Assistant Professor of Political Science and the Director of the Southern Colorado Center for Politics and Public Affairs (see more info here). His research interests lie in understanding the barriers (both institutional and individual) that voters face in participating in local elections and how racial/ethnic identities influence the political participation and coordination of voters in local and state politics. His co-authored work has been published in the Journal of Urban Affairs, Urban Affairs Review, Political Research Quarterly, Journal of Law and Courts, and California Journal of Public Policy. At CSUP, Professor Lucero teaches courses on American politics (national and state), Public Policy, Race & Ethnic Politics, and Latino Politics. His teaching style emphasizes the use of the Socratic method to challenge students’ assumptions about how our governmental and political systems function.
